'The representation of nature, whether wild, artificial, or meticulously composed, has long provided a framework for observing humanity’s relationship with its surroundings, from the pursuit of the sublime to the passing of seasons and the mapping of new territories. Today, amidst the wrath of the elements and their undeniable consequences, the romantic illusion of an untamed and inexhaustible nature has collapsed.
Old Master expands upon this legacy to trace the stark contours of a new paradigm. Oscillating from observation to experiment, from capture to render, the works here navigate both physical environments and coded architectures.'
“Every effort to understand destroys the object studied in favor of another object, of a different nature; this second object requires from us a new effort which destroys it in favor of a third, and so on and so forth until we reach the one lasting presence, the point at which the distinction between meaning and the absence of meaning disappears: the same point from which we began.”
— Claude Lévi-Strauss, Tristes Tropiques, 1955
